League of legends Deletes 860,000 Summoner Names

Today – RIOT’s MoneyPenny announced that League of Legends has done a bit of housekeeping.  This cleaning has removed over 860,000 summoner names from the database.  The names removed are ones that have been have been registered but never played in the matchmaking system.  All of these names removed and now available for current or new players to select.  So in case you are thinking of paying for a new name, but you aren’t sure it’s available, LoL has an ‘other’ tab in their in game store that allows players to search for their desired name beforehand.
