For a long time, League of Legends has been the most popular game in South Korean internet cafes, but League of Legends has now met its master, which happens to be the overly popular Overwatch.
Overwatch just keeps on growing in popularity, Overwatch received high scores all over and our reviewer called it "an instant Game of the Year Contender". Now, Overwatch has officially taken over South Korea as well, at least when it comes to what is being played in internet cafes.
League of Legends has been the King in South Korean internet cafes since 2012, but has now been dethroned, a feat only Blizzard could be able to achieve. Blizzard games have often done very well in South Korea, with games like StarCraft and StarCraft II, games the Koreans still are the best at, so it is only fitting that it is Blizzard who regains the throne.
According to Gamecritics who collects data from 4000 internet cafes, 29.56 percent of players are playing Overwatch while "only" 28.33 percent is playing League of Legends in South Korea. The number three spot on the list is held by Sudden Attack and is only played by 7.93 percent so it's not a great diversity of games being played in South Korean internet cafes'.
Now we just wait and see if Overwatch is just Overhyped in South Korea or if it really is the next big game who is here to stay, both in Korean internet cafes' and the rest of the world.
