Last week, the internet went wild over speculation that NBA superstar LeBron James will star in a new Space Jam movie. While rumors of James taking to the court alongside the Looney Toons in a game of basketball against the Monstars have been around for a while, they really took form last week when it was revealed that James' SpringHill Entertainment agreed to a new partnership with Warner Bros. Entertainment for projects spanning film, television, and original digital content.
Adding fuel to the speculative fires, the announcement was made just shortly after Warner Bros. filed new trademarks for "Space Jam" last month.
So what gives?
While neither of the sides have confirmed nor denied the rumors, James, in an Twitter Q&A session with fans, was asked directly about the possibility of starring in Space Jam 2.
James' coy response to the question could be interpreted as admission through omission. I'll tell you what, though, after watching James in Trainwreck this past weekend, I am all for him starring in a reboot or sequel to the beloved 1996 film. James has already been compared to Michael Jordan in every aspect of basketball; might as well extend that to movies as well.
