Legendary Comic Writer Stan Lee passed away at 95

Creator of many of the most popular comic book characters and figurehead of Marvel Stan Lee has died at the age of 95, according to TMZ. Lee’s daughter told the website that her father was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles early today, where he passed away soon thereafter.

The cause of death wasn’t shared but it Stan Lee has been battling various health issues in recent years. From a necessary surgery to get a pacemaker to most recently having pneumonia.

Stan Lee’s contributions to pop culture cannot be overestimated enough. During his long tenure at Marvel Comics, Lee, together with other comic legend Jack Kirby, are credited in creating pretty much every major Marvel character we know and love today. Spider-Man, X-Men, The Avengers, the list goes on and on.

Ever since the Marvel Cinematic Universe started in 2008 with Iron Man, Stan Lee had cameo appearances in each movie. It became a heartwarming tradition for fans to encounter the man responsible for their beloved characters and stories, in their movie incarnations. With the advent of Marvel’s Spider-Man, arguably the first great video game in the Marvel universe in a long, long time, Stan Lee even surpassed the boundaries of medium, and had a virtual cameo in the smash-hit PS4 exclusive.

Even at the old age of 95, Stan Lee continuously strove to be a part in Marvel movies and reached out to his fans by participating in Comic-Cons. With his passing, there’s no doubt his final cameos in the soon-appearing Avengers and Captain Marvel movies will become very special.

Lee leaves behind his only child, his daughter Joan Celia “J. C.” Lee. The love of his life, his wife of 70 years Joan passed away just last year at the same age Stan did today.
