LEGO Dimensions will not make it to Year 3, support shutting down early

The toys-to-life run appears to be nearing its end. While publisher Warner Bros. hasn't confirmed anything, Traveler's Tales studio manager Dave Dootson sent an email to developers within the studio, thanking them for their work on the game and for making it possible, as reported by Eurogamer.

Here's the quote in full:

"Thanks so much to everyone for making Dimensions possible.

As difficult as it has been, it is worth celebrating the incredible achievement it represents in the quality of the game, the amazing blend of IPs and the challenging technical demands it presented.

It stands as a real testament to the talent within TT."

While it doesn't explicitly state anything about the state of the game, sources close to the company told Eurogamer that development would cease after Year 2. Sales on LEGO Dimensions' Year 2 content were not what the company was hoping for, and with the high cost of production for LEGO toys, profit margins were almost non-existent.

With Disney Infinity biting the dust in May of 2016 and Skylanders not releasing a new game in 2017, it would appear as though the Toys-to-Life fad has passed.
