Lego MMO launches in 2014 for PC, iOS, and Android

Take a moment to remember all the countless movies and games you wished developers would Lego-fy. You were thinking small. Next year, The Secret World developer Funcom will launch a massively multiplayer online game that's all the Lego you can handle.

Lego Minifigures Online is due in the second half of 2014. It will launch for PC, iOS, and Android. Funcom has yet to announce whether the MMO will be free-to-play or subscription-based.

The game is based on the real-world minifigures line of toys, which will come with codes to download playable in-game versions of the different characters. In other words, Funcom is going the Skylanders route. Players can collect up to 100 characters (like the Ice Skater, Chicken Suit Guy, Roller Derby Girl, and Policeman) and swap between any three while playing.

The MMO will also include player-versus-player (PvP) battles that involve building your own towers, traps, mines, and turrets and smashing the enemy's. Players can also adventure together.

Funcom announced its plans for a Lego MMO last year. This kind of game has been attempted before but failed without an effective revenue model.

Lego Minifigures Online will feature settings such as pirate, space, and medieval worlds.
