As a kid of the 80s, I didn't grow up with Minecraft. I was into LEGO — the physical, original Minecraft. Now, as a father of two boys six and younger, I get to share my love of LEGO with them. They love physical LEGO sets, and they enjoy games like LEGO Batman on the PlayStation 4. My son went and watched Indiana Jones for the first time, and he loved it so much that he combined a LEGO sheriff figure and LEGO Obi-Wan Kenobi, gave him a whip, and created his own Indiana Jones figure.
It's that creativity that serves as the reason he loves Minecraft. I'm truly astounded that a six-year-old creates the things he does in that game. He's made a glass maze-like house with tons of corridors that he took me around, that eventually led outside to multiple roller coaster rides. He's surpassed what I know how to do in Minecraft. Still, there's nothing quite like LEGO, which is why LEGO Worlds is very exciting.
Now on Steam Early Access, LEGO Worlds wants you to explore, discover and create in a galaxy full of procedurally-generated Worlds made entirely of LEGO bricks. And unlike other LEGO games, you can freely manipulate and populate the world with LEGO models. There's multi-tools to shape environments, raising terrain to make mountains. Use the Brick-by-Brick editor to build whatever you can imagine. You can populate your Worlds with characters, models, vehicles, creatures, and then play your own adventures.
It might be the Minecraft killer for those that prefer the LEGO brand. It's only in Steam Early Access, but I can't wait to see how the game develops and what the community creates.
