Yesterday we told you about Square Enix's new roadmap regarding the planned Beta Phases for the relaunch of their failed MMO, Final Fantasy 14. With four Phases, the two initial ones starting with PC players and the other two finally including the much wanted PlayStation 3 version of the game, gamers will soon get a taste of just how much A Realm Reborn will change the face of FF14.
Now let's take a look at some Alpha footage from one of the game's instanced dungeons. Right off the bat, you'll notice the User Interface got a complete overhaul. It now resembles a more traditional MMO look, and overall looks much more intuitive than the original one was. The only thing that's a bit jarring is its size. It does take up quite a lot of screen real estate.
The biggest change however is the combat. If there was one thing that almost put me to sleep in the initial state of FF14 was the terribly slow combat. Even fighting something that was 2 feet tall would take 5 minutes. It seems like the combat in A Realm Reborn will be focused much more on speed, making enemy encounters much shorter.
The more I see of A Realm Reborn, the more excited I get for the potential of this game again. After the disappointment the original game was, I think that Square Enix is on the right track.
