Life is Strange dev’s Action-RPG Vampyr delayed into 2018

After targeting a November 2017 release window during E3 2017, Life is Strange developer Dontnod has announced that they have delayed their upcoming Action-RPG, Vampyr for additional polish and balancing to Spring 2018. The news was revealed in an official press release in which the developer thanked publisher Focus Home Interactive for the added development time.

Dontnod CEO, Oskar Guilbert said:

"Delaying the release of a project you hold dear is always a tough decision. However, we believe that meeting a deadline should never compromise quality. We were still convinced just a few weeks ago that we would be able to release Vampyr this year. Unfortunately, a technical issue – now solved – has set our teams' schedule back at the end of the development."

Vampyr is a much bigger game in scope than Life is Strange, with its semi-open World, weaving narrative, and deep RPG mechanics, there's a lot that has to go right for a team making easily what is their most ambitious game to date. With Remember Me and Life is Strange being the only other games in Dontnod's Catalog, a little patience with them is certainly warranted.

"This delay allows us enough time for all the polishing and balancing phase, much needed for a game of Vampyr's scope," Guilbert said.

Game development is never a smooth process, and if you've read Jason Schreier's new book Blood, Sweat, and Pixels, you'd have a better understanding of why. For now, we wait.

Vampyr will release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One in Spring 2018.
