Electronic Arts has shared some juicy new details about their flagship multiplayer shooter Battlefield 5. To kick of the start of the new Chapter 2: Lightning Strikes, Dice’s WWII shooter is receiving new content in form of Squad Conquest.
Battlefield 5 had a rough launch with controversy surrounding the interaction between some fans and the publisher but also because of a general weak amount of content. At least in terms of what fans were hoping for. Developer Dice and publisher EA are determined to win over fans with continuous and substantial post-launch support however.
Tides of War is the name of this ambitious and long endeavour. Throughout the year, Battlefield 5 will receive new week-long chapters which allow players to gain Chapter XP, increase ranks and unlock rewards. A detailed list of Chapter 2’s rewards can be found here.
The highlight of the update is the new Squad Conquest game mode. It’s only available between January 17-30, so make sure to hop in BF5 to experience the more concentrated version of 64-player Conquest. Here’s a quick rundown of Squad Conquest’s features:
- New multiplayer mode played under Conquest ruleset.
- Features two squads of eight versus two squads of eight.
- Fight to control three Flags.
- Playable on condensed versions of the Arras, Rotterdam, and Hamada maps.
- Available only during January 17–30, for now.
In February, as part of Chapter 2, a new coop mode will also arrive with Combined Arms and the return of Rush. New vehicles, weapons, company gear and more is also planned to roll out during the second chapter.
It’s a nice amount of new content which every Battlefield 5 player will receive for free, but we also got a sneak peek at what’s in store for players in the Chapter 3 come March. Fittingly named Trial by Fire, BF5 is finally going to get its own battle royale mode Firestorm.
