The upcoming Xbox One / Windows 10 game from Lionhead, Fable Legends, is a free-to-play co-op RPG. Players will work together and at times split up for strategy as they progress through a dungeon. It looks fun, but doesn't really feel like a Fable game. That said, it's something new and we are willing to give it a try when it comes out.
Obviously, the biggest part of the game is multiplayer. Last month, Microsoft announced that Fable Legends will be cross-playable on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. Today at GDC, engineering lead Raymond Arifianto shed some more light on that. With the game's cross-play functionality, Microsoft will only have one Fable Legends game in their back-end, one cloud of saved gamed, and all multiplayer games will come from that. Fable Legends across both devices will have a seamless approach with a single pool of Achievements.
This further goes with what Microsoft's Phil Spencer was saying about "offering a single gaming social network, operating system, application player and store across all Windows devices."
Arifianto went on to say:
"People ask us why we don't just do this the way it has always been done before. Why don't we split the player pool up into Xbox and PC? What we learned is that every time people play Fable Legends, either as a hero or a villain, it's a different experience. A larger pool of players creates opportunities for a richer experience."
