Lionsgate developing games and films based on Kingkiller Chronicle book series

The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss consists of three books, two of which are released currently. The third will most likely be released next year but it looks like fans of the franchise are in for an even bigger treat. Lionsgate has bought the rights to the series and will be developing a simultaneous release with Rothfuss of movies, TV series and video games.

In the series, we follow the protoganist Kvothe, a wizard. The first two books; The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man's Fear, take us through the events of Kvothe transitioning from a basic magician to a powerful wizard.  After being accused of killing a king and, as a result, going into hiding, he changes his name to Kote and takes over an Inn in the land of Newarre. The first two books are extremely intriguing and possess the fantasy setting that fans of the genre enjoy with wizards and magic.

The news was first reported by the Hollywood Reporter and Lionsgate will also assist in the release of the third book. There is no official title for the novel yet but The Doors of Stone has been rumored to be the project name for now.

The possibilities for video games based on the novels are endless and will best be served as an RPG. Between wizards, fighters, traveling performers and more, The Kingkiller Chronicles has all the works in the first two books alone for a video game and that's before the final book is even released. We still don't have a release date for now, but book one was released in 07' with book two hitting the shelves in 11'. Based on that timeline and this recent deal, we should hear news on the the final book soon, most likely by mid next year with a launch.

No mention of any platforms or release yet as it's a developing story
