Lollipop Chainsaw is censored, but thankfully only in Japan

I will never understand why Japan censors certain video games. I mean, that's the country that's credited with popularizing deathmatch wrestling. And yes, we all know wrestling is scripted, but blood is very real, and when an imposing Japanese wrestler uses a sickle to open up some nasty wounds on the head and stomach of his opponent, you know it's brutal.

Still, video games in Japan are often censored. The original No More Heroes was censored, and now it looks like another one of Suda51's creations is having its more explicit content covered up. According to Siliconera, Lollipop Chainsaw will be censored in the land of the rising sun.

The game will be rated CERO D, which is equivalent to the ESRB's M-rating. There's some good news for gamers in Japan, though. Individuals who purchase the premium edition of Lollipop Chainsaw will be able to toggle between CERO D and CERO Z modes. For those of you wondering, CERO Z is like our Adults Only rating.

At least there's a way for gamers in Japan to play the proper version of Lollipop Chainsaw. Even then, I still think it's super weird that the game is being censored over there. I mean, Japan is known for its controversial films and literature, but a video game is too much? I seriously don't get it.
