Doctor Strange is already shaping up to host an impressive lineup of talent. With Sinister’s Scott Derrickson directing and Prometheus-That-Never-Was Jon Spaihts doing the screenplay, the film’s actors almost look like a straight off of Tumblr fan casting with Benedict Cumberbatch in the titular role, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo and Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One. Reportedly also joining the cast is Rachel McAdams, however, her role has been one that’s been contested at worst and vague at best.
It was originally assumed she would be playing a love interest for Stephen Strange, which is a move that feels backwards given how fantastically they’ve handled characters like Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter and what we’re about to see with Jessica Jones and Wasp.
That said, both Collider and Latino Review are both reporting that the role she’ll fill will actually be that of Night Nurse’s Christine Palmer, an assumption that would fit not only with Strange’s medical background, but also when considered in the light of Rosario Dawson’s character for Daredevil was originally being that of a Night Nurse, something that got nixed when the feature side of Marvel said they already had plans for that role.
Night Nurse holds a special place in the Marvel canon due to her willingness to help injured superheroes, something that happens far more often than the main storylines would have us believe. Introducing this character back into the fold would be a move that would not only make sense, but serve to humanize these more than human characters.
