Looks like the PS4 is getting a $50 price drop after all

When Sony announced a price cut for the PlayStation 4 in Japan, I predicted it would only be a matter of time before we start to see discounts here in the United States — probably around the holiday season. Well, with the shopping season rapidly approaching, it looks like retailers are starting to get a jump start. According to retailer Target, the new price for the PS4 will be $349.99 — $50 cheaper than usual.

No formal announcement has been made, and the ad that mentioned the price cut has been taken down. Now it's possible this could have been a mistake, as Target does offer some older PS4 bundles (The Last of Us, Destiny) with a $50 gift card; however, the discount was spotted on the listings of bundles for upcoming games, such as The Nathan Drake Collection.

Again, nothing has been officially announced as of yet, but given the PS4's age and the extremely attractive bundles Microsoft just unveiled (likely coupled with big discounts), Sony must do more to remain competitive this holiday season. Last year, the holiday season was one of the few times the Xbox One actually outsold the PS4 in the United States.
