Looks like we are getting an all-male Ghostbusters after all

The rumors of a Ghostbuster reboot featuring an all-male main cast (in addition to the one currently already in production featuring a female-driven squad) can finally end as screenwriter Drew Pearce has confirmed the film is indeed in the works, and that he has completed the screenplay for it. As previously rumored (before Channing Tatum said the spinoff wasn't happening), the new reboot will be part of the same universe that Paul Feig's female Ghostbusters exist in.

“I’ve finished my work on that in the last couple weeks,” Pearce told MTV. “Obviously it’s top secret, but there’s a gigantic bold idea that I came up with, and the Russo brothers — who did ’Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ and are doing ’Civil War’ at the moment — and Ivan Reitman, who did the original movie, are going to take that and run with it. Obviously I cannot tell you what it is, but hopefully in one year’s time you’ll know!”

When Pearce was asked about the rumored Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt casting, here's what he said:

“That’s definitely the cast we’ve been thinking about as we approach the project,” Pearce confirmed, adding, “Whether that happens or not is very much above my pay grade. It’s just my job to give them something exciting that maybe they’ll do.”

Previous rumors suggested that Sony Pictures will premiere both the female-driven and male-driven Ghosbusters film separately, possibly building towards a bigger film that could potentially feature both sets of Ghostbusters. As we said the first time we heard about the two different films, why not just create one film that features a cast with both male and female Ghostbusters? And then one of our fellow GameZone writers pointed out, that'd be like "dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria."

There's been no official announcement yet on the all-male Ghostbusters film, but Feig's version hits theaters on July 22, 2016.
