Indie developer Amanita Design had previously stated that it was working on porting its hit adventure game Machinarium to the Wii. The company won't be doing any such thing, however, as it has canceled development of the game for WiiWare. News of the game getting the axe on the Wii surfaced when Amanita officially made the announcement in a statement to Eurogamer.
Jakub Dvorsky, founder of Amanita, stated that the reason the company wouldn't be developing Machinarium for WiiWare was due to Nintendo's pesky file size limitations. This isn't a shocker, and with WiiWare hardly being a reputable download platform, it's probably a smart move. "We don't like the Wii because the resolution is so low and there is a size limit on WiiWare of 40MB, which is so low for nowadays," explained Dvorsky.
The developer discussed how the PlayStation 3 version of the game would be the definitive iteration of Machinarium. "This PlayStation version will be the ultimate version of Machinarium," he stated. "There will be a few new features such as zoom. You will have the ability to zoom to certain places. There will be Trophies. It will be more fluent. It's a really nice version. I'm quite happy with it. We're looking forward to it."
I look forward to the PlayStation 3 release of Machinarium. As for the canceled Wii version, I'm certain we all saw this coming. For an indie game lover such as myself, this is another strike against Nintendo. Don't get me wrong, I like the Big N, but it's things like this that really make the Wii seem pathetic.
