Mad Max: Fury Road comes in second at box office to Pitch Perfect 2

As awesome as everyone is saying Mad Max: Fury Road is, the movie starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron got pitch slapped by Pitch Perfect 2. Pitch Perfect 2, the sequel starring Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, was first at the box office with a $70.3 million opening weekend — that's more than the original Pitch Perfect made in its entire North American theatrical run ($65 million).

Mad Max: Fury Road came in second, $25 million behind Pitch Perfect 2 with $44.4 million. It has received amazing reviews, but the R-rating could be hurting it a little in box office numbers. The amount the film made is nothing to scoff at, however.

Rounding out the rest of the box office numbers were Avengers: Age of Ultron with $38.8 million, Hot Pursuit with $5.8 million, and Ex Machina brought in $2.1 million.
