Madden NFL 16 could not have been more wrong with its Super Bowl 50 prediction

No one, not even the so called "experts," gave the Broncos a chance last night. So we forgive EA's Madden NFL 16 for not only incorrectly predicting that the Carolina Panthers would win Super Bowl 50, but for being so incredibly wrong with its prediction.

This year, Madden 16 predicted the Carolina Panthers would beat the Denver Broncos 24-20, with Cam Newton scoring MVP honors.

The real result?

The Broncos won 24-10, thanks largely to a stingy defense that forced four turnovers.

Both offenses were completely inept the entire game. Newton, who was predicted by Madden 16 to score the game winning drive, was held in check all day — sacked a whopping 7 times.

The game predicted the NFL Season MVP going 19/26 with 216 yards, a touchdown pass, a touchdown run, and one interception. In reality, he went 18/41 with 265 meaningless yards and one interception. Comparatively, Madden predicted Manning to complete 21 of 37 passes for 241 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception; in reality he went a pedestrian 13 of 23 for 141 yards and one interception.

The rest of Madden's predictions were pretty frivolous, as both teams failed to muster any offense in the real game. Panthers' running back Jonathan Stewart did have a touchdown run in both the game and simulation, so that was correct, but all of the other stats were pretty far off.

Again, though, it's hard to get too down on Madden, considering the franchise has now correctly predicted 9 of the last 13 Super Bowl outcomes. And let's not forget how eerily accurate last year's prediction was, with the simulation not only correctly predicting the Patriots to beat the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX (49), but even nailing the score.

69% prediction accuracy doesn't look quite as nice as 75%, or what would have been 77% if it was correct this year; but, Madden has always struggled with predicting the Broncos. The last time Madden was completely wrong was Madden 25 in which it predicted the Broncos to beat the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII (48) with an overtime victory. Not only did the Seahawks beat the Broncos, but they completely manhandled them to the tune of 43 to 8.

Better luck next year, Madden.
