Madden NFL 16 promises changes to improve the passing game

It's no secret that the NFL, in an attempt to make the game of football more exciting, has implemented a number of rules that favor the offense. And many of these changes have been linked to the passing game, making it much easier for receivers to get open (and let's not even get started on the no touching the quarterback crap).

It appears Electronic Arts will be following suit with Madden NFL 16, implementing "all-new controls" that will allow you to "dominate in battle for air supremacy."

Now keep in mind nothing official has been announced, but last year EA did promise to make changes to the passing game in Madden. One of the biggest critiques with the Madden franchise has been the inability to exploit single coverage downfield. Throwing the ball deep often results in interceptions. It doesn't help that receivers, even the game's biggest playmakers like Calvin Johnson, wouldn't go up and fight for the ball, or would simply be out of position and make no effort to catch it.

At this point, it's unknown what changes EA has in store, but the idea of new controls that would actually allow the player better control to fight for the catch would certainly be welcomed — if done right, that is.

Madden NFL 16 is set to release on August 26. Voting for this year's cover athlete is began yesterday.
