Mafia 1 re-releases exclusively on GOG.com

A cult classic has returned. GOG.com has announced that Mafia 1 is available once again in digital distribution DRM-free exclusively through them. Mafia rose to prominence back in 2002 in the wake of Grand Theft Auto 3's now-legendary take on open-world gameplay, though it served as a period piece on 1930's gangsters. The game is now available on GOG and retails for $14.99.

In Mafia, players take on the role of Tommy Angelo, a cab driver who inadvertently finds himself in the world of organized crime on the streets of Lost Heaven. The game progresses the player from Foot Soldier to "Made Man" and plays on the typical tropes you'd expect from family to Tommy Guns surrounded by Depression-era culture and architecture. Mafia gives players the opportunity to take part in mob hits, car chases, bootlegging, shootouts, bank robberies as part of its 20 mission story arc.

At launch, Mafia had an average Metascore of 88 and considering its horrendously flawed PS2-port, the best place to play the game is undoubtedly on PC.
