True to their word, 2K today released the official story trailer for the previously announced Mafia 3.
Mafia 3 is set in a “reimagined” 1968 New Orleans bustling with crime activity, 2K said in a statement. With the aid of many a corrupt politician and policeman, the Italian and black mobs vie for power in the divided city.
Enter protagonist Lincoln Clay. Orphaned as a child, Lincoln returns from the Vietnam war in search of a family, and eventually finds one in the black mob of New Orleans. Their power struggle sees his newfound family killed, sending him on a quest for revenge.
“As the story progresses, Lincoln allies himself with other criminals and builds an empire and a new family of his own that transforms the city,” 2K said. Indeed, players will be building their own crime empire as they progress, choosing who and how to fight.
Mafia 3 is being developed by Hangar 13, a new studio under 2K’s label, and led by writer Haden Blackman. Blackman is best known for his work on Star Wars video games and comics, including Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter.
Mafia 3 will release on Xbox One, PS4 and Windows PC sometime in 2016.
