Mafia: Definitive Edition content update adds Noir Mode and more

Developer Hangar 13 has detailed the first post-launch update to the Mafia: Definitive Edition. Apart from the usual bug squashing, this content update brings several key new enhancements and mechanics to the action-adventure remake.

Firstly, we have the introduction of the ‘Noir Mode’. This visual option transforms the entire presentation into a sleek black and white color tone. Besides looking incredibly cool, it’s a fitting tonal change, if you keep in mind the time period the story takes place in.

Next up, is a big enhancement to one of the core aspects of presentation, the HUD. With the inclusion of a highly customizable HUD overlay, players can now decide how immersed they want to be. Feel like exploring the entire world on your own? Turn off all helping markers. Or are there certain parts of the HUD that you don’t want to see? You can simply toggle them off. All in all, it’s a great option to have in a serious gangster epic like Mafia: Definitive Edition.

Last but not least, we have arguably the biggest game-changer of the new update. Additional Free Ride content aims to deliver new content apart from the main campaign.

While the main bulk of the action-adventure focuses on a tightly-crafted narrative experience, the open-world felt very underutilized. As such, the Free Ride mode allows players to explore the City of Lost Heaven at their own leisure. A drought of activities makes this very stale very fast though.

This changes now. Extreme Races bring a slight cart racing feel to the game. Collect weapons as your drive, shoot your opponents, and don’t forget to keep an eye on your tank. If this is too extreme for your taste, hop in a taxi car and drive passengers. Since it’s not a mission per se, you can indulge in this roleplay as long as you like.
