2K Games has at long last shared lengthy gameplay footage for their upcoming Mafia: Definitive Edition remake. You can watch the entire 15 minutes of gangster goodness here!
Initially, we were looking forward to getting our hands on Hangar 13’s ambitious remake of the first Mafia title come next month. But the exceptional situation in the world this year has hit game companies pretty hard too. The one-month extra wait is comparably short when compared to other games this year that got delayed multiple months, so we’re not complaining.
Today’s gameplay reveal video goes into great detail showing just how much work has been put into Mafia: Definitive Edition. It’s fundamentally an entirely new game with the massive improvements to the original’s gameplay mechanics. Of course, visually alone it shows no signs of age whatsoever. Everything has been done from scratch with state-of-the-art technology.
The city of Lost Heaven got hit hard by The Great Depression, and the advent of Prohibition in America means lucrative business opportunities for mobsters. The Salieri and Morello crime families vie for control over Lost Heaven, even as its few honest policemen scramble to maintain order.
Thomas Angelo’s humble life as a hard-working taxi driver is forever changed after a fateful run-in with the Italian Mafia. Now he’s doing jobs for Don Salieri and gaining respect in the criminal underworld, though his conscience keeps his ego in check.
Veterans of the original should have plenty of reason to play the remake, too. The city has been altered to an extent, making it more believable with the modern presentation, while still adhering to its original aesthetics and landmarks.
Mafia: Definitive Edition will be launching on September 25 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia.
