Major Nelson clarifies the Xbox One’s 10% performance increase without the Kinect

Last night came word that the Xbox One will see a performance increase of 10% without the Kinect. But don't think that you can simply unplug the camera and see better graphics. Xbox's Major Nelson clarified the statement on Twitter:

Dear Media: The GPU change was developer facing. Unplugging Kinect does not get you more HP. Devs have to code to the new specs.

In other words, Xbox One developers now have access to 10% more of the system's GPU due to the fact that the Kinect is no longer a mandatory purchase with the system. Should a developer choose to not utilize the Kinect for their gane, they'll gain access to more GPU.

Confusion solve, right? Right!
