Major shake ups at Marvel Studios will have some pretty substantial impacts on MCU future films

Phase Two of the MCU officially wrapped with Ant-Man and with a successful stint of films and Phase Three looming for next year, some major shake ups have happened at Marvel Studios which will absolutely have meaningful impact on all future films. Not only has noted miser Ike Perlmutter been removed from purview (he alone vetoed Black Widow toys, believing girl money doesn’t exist) but the Marvel Creative Committee has also officially been dissolved.

On the surface, the Creative Committee sounded like a good and reasonable idea. A group of people intimate with the source material who would help fact check and guide the artistic direction of the films Marvel Studios put out and ensure that the films were faithful to the spirit of the written characters. Some pretty prolific Marvel Comics alums such as Brian Michael Bendis, Joe Quesada and Dan Buckley were all a part of the group, however, the reality and practice of the committee served to strain relationships, drag production decisions out to absurd degrees and even lead to Edgar Wright abandoning his passion project Ant-Man and nearly led Kevin Feige to do the same with Civil War.

While Perlmutter’s influence may still be felt via Marvel TV, where he still presides, going forward the main creative decisions will now be under the aegis of Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito and Victoria Alonso alone, a choice that will hopefully alleviate the drag and conflict that has pestered production of the films behind the scenes for years now.

That said, while both Civil War and Doctor Strange are already very deep in post and pre production respectively, going forward past those the films might be geared to run a lot smoother and offer greater depth of experience for all involved, including audiences.
