Have you ever dreamt of exploring an IKEA kitchen but you don't want to go into the maze that is IKEA? Now you don't have to because IKEA has released a Virtual Reality experience that lets you explore a kitchen.
There's a lot of VR news is out there like, Assassin's Creed is getting a VR experience, Star Wars Battlefront is getting a VR mode, and now glorious IKEA is getting a VR experience.
"Put on your VR headset and prepare to explore our kitchen in full 3D," reads the experience's Steam description which basically sells itself. "Enjoy walking around and interacting with some parts of it just like you were there. Instantly change the look and feel of the kitchen by selecting a different material finish. Explore the kitchen from a child’s point of view or as a tall person."
You can do everything you could dream about in a kitchen exploration game! Even explore it from a tall person's point of view or a child's!
Besides all of that mentioned above players can open drawers, pick up frying pans and place it on a stove, and players can do every Swede's favorite activity, recycle the vegetable skins in the waste sorting station. The VR experience even has a "teleport" function that they ask people to try. This VR experience truly has everything
As people might expect, this VR experience is expected to last about 5 minutes. It is current a test for IKEA that will be supported until August 2016. If it is successful, we might get more VR exploration experiences from IKEA, maybe next time we will get to play with Ingatorp, Svenbertil, Norråker, Börje,Fjälkinge, Möckelby, and Västanå. The possibilities are endless!
The IKEA team even challenges the players to find the kitchen this experience is based on in their 2016 IKEA Catalogue. Game on!
Since this is a test VR experience for future experiences the IKEA team is asking for feedback. If you give them enough feedback then maybe you won't have to go to IKEA the next time look at something — consider that.
This VR experience is free, but it requires a quite well built PC. It doesn't look like it can be played on PC that has been around for a few years.
