The maker of Threes is developing a real-time strategy game for the PlayStation 4, even though he hates playing RTSes. On today's post on PlayStation Blog, he describes RTS games as "lonely exercises in sadomasochism," which he intends to fix with his latest game Close Castles.
Close Castles is a minimalist RTS with games that last around three minutes on the fastest game speed. You move your cursor (using a DualShock 4) around the field and build structures. Why? Well you and your biggest rival have built your castles way too close to each other. So close that you can hear him scream insults with his French accent, like "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!" So now your job is to build up your cramped kingdom while sending out troops to destroy your enemy's castle.
It's also built for local multiplayer, so you can sit on the couch and tell your opponent "I fart in your general direction!" The creator, Asher Vollmer, says that the local multiplayer feels a lot like a fighting game at higher levels since it's "about reading your opponent and turning the tiny cracks in their strategy into a crumbling pile of failure / rubble."
Close Castles is coming to consoles in 2015, and it will be playable at the PlayStation Experience in Las Vegas this weekend.
