Man dies after 3-day gaming binge in Internet Café, no one notices

Distraction from a game comes at a cost, you can die (in-game), your DPS can suffer, you can miss out on a rare spawn, you can miss out on a game invite — basically, there are a lot of things that can happen if you look away from a game.

A 32 year-old Taiwanese man, Hsieh, was found dead in an Internet Café after a three-day gaming binge. This is the second online gaming related death in Taiwan this year and we are only 19 days into the year.

Hsieh wasn't new to the Internet Café gaming scene, he would often be found there playing games (it is not specified which game) for days on end. If he was tired, he would slump in his chair or sleep face down on the table. His death, as it would seem, was brought on by cold temperatures, over-exhaustion and cardiac arrest (my bets are on the last two).

It wasn't the desk mates of the dying man that called in his death, but an employee who found him motionless and sprawled out over a table. No one is sure how long Hsieh was dead before anyone noticed, but it had to be for several hours because his body had begin to stiffen. The police reported that the gamers in the Internet Café continued gaming as though nothing was amiss — even when the police and paramedics arrived.

I'm no stranger to intense gaming, my days of World of Warcraft raiding could have me playing through a housefire. I paid attention, to say the least.
