At this point, nearly all of us have experienced an issue with a computer at one point in our lives. The real question is how many times does your computer have to blue screen before you utterly destroy it?
A Colorado man, Lucas Hinch, was fed up with his computer (it looks like a Dell Dimension 9100)– it let him down one too many times over the last month, so he did what any other person would do. He took it out back and shot it, fatally wounding the Dell:
"He got tired of fighting with his computer for the last several months," Lt. Jeff Strossner said. "He was having technology problems, so he took it out in the back alley and shot it."
Hinch's crimes against PC have not gone unpunished, while he didn't know it was against the law to shoot his gun in an alley, he was cited for discharging his weapon within city limits. The real penalty will be decided by a judge.
Now, what would it take for you to decide to shoot a computer before you decided to pick it up, throw it in the street and walk away?
Let us take a moment to consider the final moments of the Dell… (incoming dramatization)
Lucas Hinch had never ventured into violent thoughts, he was considered a "good-natured" man by those around him. It wasn't until he encountered his Dell 9100 in 2005, that he began his descent…
For the first few years the computer worked without a hitch, every requested task was met and delivered without delay, but it was not to last. Nearly ten years after his purchase, the Dell begun to become defiant. It was as though it was ignoring his requests. The computer simply would not respond.
Hinch began mumbling his curses at the Dell, which responded by timidly opening windows three minutes after Hinch requested. The mumbling grew into deep resentment, Hinch began wildly yelling at the Dell. Soon after neighbors began to the thundering of hollow metal boxes being met with violence.
The end of Dell 9100's life was full of fear. What would Hinch do when the file wouldn't open? Why didn't Hinch take the time to update and defrag the computer?
It wasn't until Dell 9100 was in the alley till its fate befell it. There was a clink, eight gunshots, followed by silence.
