The DeLorean his cult status back in 1985 thanks to 'Back to the Future' using the car to travel through time. One man in Essex, named Nigel Mills, claims that he wasn't trying to go back to 1955 even though he was going 88mph.
“I wasn’t trying to time travel,” said Mills to The Guardian “It was at 11am on Sunday and the road was completely clear.” Except it wasn't that clear, Mills sped right by a police officer who promptly ticketed him.
Apparently, the police didn't really much mind that he was speeding, after giving Mills a ticket for speeding the officer didn't attend the hearing which dismissed the charge altogether.
Mills stood firm behind the fact that he wasn't trying to travel through time, saying “a car fan and me and the rest of my family enjoyed the Back to the Future films. When I’m out in it a few people recognize it, they slow down and take pictures – drivers take pictures out of their windows or try to film you and I get approached at petrol stations."
