Towards the beginning of May, we saw the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 the second installment in the Guardians series that has been revealed to probably be a trilogy. Overall, the movie has been hailed as pretty darn good by people who got to watch the film, you know, as long as their movie viewing experience wasn't ruined.
According to a report from Statesman, one man is suing a woman because she was on her phone too damn much during the film. Brandon Vezmar, a 37-year-old resident of Austin, Texas, has filed a claim against a 35-year-old woman he took on a date to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 3D.
According to Vezmar, “It was kind of a first date from hell.”
The duo had met online and decided to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 3D on May 6th – a day after the film released. The film had been playing for nearly 15 minutes when everything went downhill. Vezmar claimed the woman “activated her phone at least 10-20 times in 15 minutes to read and send text messages.”
The woman claims that she only texted on her phone while the film was playing around two or three times.
Vezmar claimed he asked her to stop texting, suggesting that she go outside the auditorium to text. Well, the woman did go outside to text, but she never came back. Unfortunately for Vezmar, they had driven to the theater together, so he was left stranded.
Things didn't end there. Vezmar asked the woman to pay him back the price of the film's ticket – $17.31. When she refused, claiming that he took her out on a date and that he should swallow the cost (which he initially planned to do), Vezmar contacted the woman's younger sister to get the money (the woman considered a protective order against Vezmar at that point).
According to Vezmar's claim, texting is a “direct violation” of the theater’s policy and that his date “adversely” affected his viewing experience, as well as the experience of other movie-goers.
“While damages sought are modest, the principle is important as defendant’s behavior is a threat to civilized society,” the petition said.
Director James Gun poked fun at the lawsuit, saying "Why stop at suing? She deserves jail time!"
It's unclear whether or not Judge Judy will be the presiding judge over the case.
