Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is ‘creepy, violent, and crazy’ in Suicide Squad

Everything the actress aspires to be

Jared Leto's version of iconic Bat-villain the Joker may have been the original draw, but there's another star of Suicide Squad quickly stealing the spotlight. That would be Australian actress Margot Robbie who is playing the intriguingly twisted Harley Quinn in the upcoming movie. Quinn has always been a fan-favorite among DC fans, but Robbie's take on the iconic character has garnered much attention of late.

Unfortunately, save for a few moments in the trailer and some official photos, we actually haven't seen or heard much of the former psychologist-turned-bat-wielding-psycho, and Joker's on-again, off-again lover. That is, until recently when Robbie opened up about her role.

"Harley is creepy, violent, crazy — all of the things that I aspire to be," she said of the character. Okay, so we already knew most of that about Harley, but Robbie opened up more about what actually drew her to to the role. "It's the fun of living vicariously through someone who is doing things that I would never do in real life."

Robbie also talked a bit about fellow co-star Will Smith, who will be playing Deadshot in the film. Having starred alongside Will Smith in 2015's Focus, Robbie was eager to reunite with the actor.

“I enjoyed working with Will so, so much that I was overjoyed when I heard that we would be working together again,” Robbie said. “I actually texted him when I heard he was in negotiations to be in Suicide Squad and kept peer-pressuring him, ‘You’d better be taking this movie!’ He obviously signed on for his own reasons, but I was so incredibly happy that we got to do Round Two. He’s awesome on set and awesome off set. He’s just a really, really good person.”

Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5, 2016. A new trailer for the highly anticipated film is slated to debut on January 19th during The CW's DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League.
