This is exactly what the Wii U needed, an exclusive that would turn Nintendo's struggling system in a must-have. It may be too early to declare Mario Kart 8 the Wii U's savior, but the new exclusive kart racing game has led to a 666 percent increase in Wii U sales in the UK since its launch last Friday.
According to GfK Chart-Track, which reports on sales in the UK, Mario Kart 8 was the best-selling week one for any Wii U title since launch and the second best in the Mario Kart series ever. Mario Kart 8 Wii U Bundles comprised 82 percent of hte Wii U hardware sale increase.
We'll wait for NPD Group's report on U.S. sales before we start to call it a comeback, but so far it looks like Mario Kart 8 could be the system seller Nintendo was hoping it would be.
