Mario Kart 8’s DLC now coming in April

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata announced that Mario Kart 8's previously announced DLC has been moved up a month and will now release in April.

During tonight's Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo gave us our first look at the new Animal Crossing course which features seasons that will change each time you race. In total, the DLC will offer players three new racers (Isabelle, Villager, and Dry Bowser), four new vehicles (City Tripper and Streetle, plus two more to be revealed), and eight courses spread across the Crossing Cup and Bell Cup. More details about the two remaining karts and courses will be revealed.

Nintendo is also adding nine new racing outfits to Mario Kart 8 via amiibo. Mega Man, Pac Man, Sonic, Toad, Wario, Villager, Rosalina, Bowser, and Olimar race costumes will unlock once you scan the appropriate amiibo to the game.

And lastly, for the first time ever in the franchise, Mario Kart 8 will add a 200cc difficulty. Previously, the fastest class was 150cc. According to Nintendo, 200cc will add a whole new level of difficulty with opponents so fast you'll have to have good breaking skills around tight corners.

"It's Mario Kart like you've never experienced it before," Iwata teased.

An free update adding 200cc will roll out on April 23. All courses will support this new speed.
