Mario Kart saves lives

Those who say video games are a waste of time and poison our youth can go suck an egg. There's proof that video games save lives with quick reflex times and provide real-world experience.

Take Gryffin Sanders of Golden, Colorado, for instance — a 10-year-old boy who sprung into action and grabbed the wheel of his great-grandmother's car when she passed out while driving. Sitting in the passenger seat, his 74-year-old great grandmother passed out while going 60 miles per hour. To make matters worse, Gryffin's four-year-old brother was in thee back seat.

When the car swayed into oncoming traffic, he grabbed the wheel and — wanting to get the car out of the way of traffic, drove the car into a ditch. The car slowed in the ditch filled with mud and left everyone unharmed while a passerby stopped to call 911 and help his great grandmother.

Gryffin credits his skills and response to Mario Kart, saying he learned a lot playing the video game.

"And I'm pretty good at go kart driving," said Gryffin.

We applaud Gryffin for being a hero, reacting quickly and preventing what could have been a disastrous accident.
