Mark Hamill ‘fundamentally disagreed’ with the choices made for Luke in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

But he still gave it his all.

The mystery around the upcoming Star Wars film, The Last Jedi, has only grown since the reveal of the film's official title. Does 'The Last Jedi' refer to Luke or does it refer to the Jedi as a collective? Unfortunately, there's no clear answer on that, but the speculation on the film has only grown – especially with Mark Hamill's latest interview.

Mark Hamill has been playing Luke in Star Wars for quite a while now, but with the new films bringing back Luke and his past insight on the character, he's having a tough time with some of the decisions being made around him.

According to Hamill's interview with Vanity Fair, after reading director Rian Johnson's script for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Hamill didn't outright agree with Johnson's script.

"I at one point had to say to Rian, 'I pretty much fundamentally disagree with every choice you’ve made for this character.'"

However, even with Hamill disagreeing on his character's actions or fate he did not allow his feelings to impede on his acting or take away from the character, and yes, he still respects Johnson.

"'Now, having said that, I have gotten it off my chest, and my job now is to take what you’ve created and do my best to realize your vision.'"

Episode Eight has teased to feature 'the most shocking truth in Star Wars history' and it's unclear if that statement applies to Luke, but we definitely can't wait to see! The real question is – what are the choices Hamill disagreed with?

Star Wars: The Last Jedi releases in theaters on December 15th, 2017.
