Mark Hamill might have just revealed a major Luke Skywalker spoiler

WARNING: SPOILER ALERT, THIS IS A WARNING FOR SPOILERS THAT HAS BEEN MADE AS PAINFULLY OBVIOUS AS IT CAN POSSIBLY BE. IF YOUR EYES GAZE BEYOND THIS POINT, IT'S YOUR FAULT.

So Mark Hamill was recently in London for an event hosted by The Big Issue magazine in which he went up on stage to interview The Kinks' Ray Davies, who Hamill himself is a huge fan of. While most of his interview with Davies centered around the band, Hamill may have slipped up and revealed the fate of his legendary character, Luke Skywalker in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII.

He said:

"I finish Episode VIII, and then I’m out of work"

This could be nothing. It could be something. It wouldn't be a surprise if it were something. Star Wars itself has never been shy of killing off the older generation of characters since they serve as mentors for the younger and up-and-coming ones (a common narrative thread in many stories). Luke's set-up in this new trilogy seems to be a combination of Obi-Wan Kenobi from A New Hope and Yoda from The Empire Strikes Back, the old wizard in ragged robes discovered on a far away world that helps the protagonist fulfill their destiny.

Frankly, if it doesn't happen in VIII, it'll happen in IX. He's not the focal point of the story, though he still has a slight redemption arc left to fulfill. But once that's over, there's no way Luke Skywalker is left standing at the end of this trilogy.
