‘Marketing reasons’ preventing Microsoft from announcing Xbox One release date

Despite Sony already confirming a November 15th launch for the PS4 in the U.S. (November 29 for Europe), Microsoft isn't yet ready to do the same with its own next-gen console. Many thought we'd come out of Gamescom knowing when both the PS4 and Xbox One would be releasing — and we still might as it's not yet over — but for now we still have to settle for the "November window" Microsoft has been teasing for the Xbox One.

What's the hold up?

"We have said November, and we continue to say November," Microsoft's Phil Harrison told CVG. When pressed for further comment, Harrison said, "We will make an announcement in due course."

"There are a certain number of marketing reasons why we still haven't announced a launch date, but we continue to say November," he reiterated.

Last week, Microsoft revealed that it would be unable to deliver on its promise of launching Xbox One in 21 markets, with the system being delayed in eight countries. Microsoft was vague in its reasoning, but offered somewhat of a workaround to those affected by the delay. One has to wonder if Microsoft's refusal to announce a release date has more to do with console production and less with "marketing."
