Marvel confirms Ant-Man will be in Captain America: Civil War

All of the rumors and speculation can end as Marvel has finally confirmed that Ant-Man will make his first appearances alongside the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War.

While just about everyone already expected this, Marvel just now confirmed Rudd's involvement in the upcoming film.

In a post announcing the start of production of Captain America: Civil War, set for release on May 6, 2016, Marvel went down the long list of just about all the major actors involved. Of course, the film returns Chris Evans as the iconic Steve Rogers/Captain America, and joining him are Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes/War Machine, and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlett Witch.

And finally, we have this tidbit:

"After his debut in Marvel’s “Ant-Man” on July 17, 2015, Paul Rudd (“Ant-Man,” ”Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues”) will make his first appearance alongside the Avengers as Scott Lang/Ant-Man in 'Captain America: Civil War.'"

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, with Steve Rogers leading the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. Here's Marvel's official description:

"After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain."

If Captain America: Civil War is anything like Avengers: Age of Ultron — and looking at this cast, I suspect it will be — than we can expect numbers similar to that of Ultron's opening weekend. The film, which released on May 1, 2015, recorded the second biggest opening weekend of all time with a $191.3 million box office.

I don't know if Ant-Man will have similar success, but the more I see of it, the more I'm looking forward to it.
