Let's take a break from Spider-Man for a second. On November 2, 2018, Marvel Studios will be releasing Captain Marvel in theaters. It's a pretty big deal because it'll be the first Marvel film with a female lead, though no actress has been cast in the titular role yet (but damn Yvonne Strahovski would be amazing). While all is quiet on the casting front, there's a pretty big rumor concerning who Marvel is going after to direct the film.
According to OK! Magazine (via Wired), Marvel is trying to get Angelina Jolie to helm the Captain Marvel film, even preparing to offer her $20 million for the job. The Academy Award winner recently directed Unbroken, a movie about the life of Olymplian and war hero Louis Zamperini who survived on a raft for 47 days after a plan crash in WWII, only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner of war camp.
It would be quite a catch if Marvel can get Jolie to direct this film, as she adds instant star power, even though she wouldn't be starring in it. But take this rumor with a grain of salt. There's been no indication before this that Jolie was being considered, and $20 million is a ton of money. That said, I think the PR around a female directing the first female-led Marvel movie would be great.
