Marvel is set to reboot their shortlived 1978 comic by Jack Kirby, Devil Dinosaur with writers Amy Reeder (Madame Xanadu, Batwoman) and Brandon Montclare (Rocket Girl, Fear Itself: Fearsome Four), artist Natacha Bustos (Strange Sports Stories), editor Mark Paniccia and assistant editor Emily Shaw.
This reboot will take the story of a red Tyrannosaurus Rex and his caveman-like friend, Moon-Boy and change it ever so slightly. Instead of a caveman named Moon-Boy, the dinosaur's friend will be a pre-teen super genius named Lunella Lafayette A.K.A Moon Girl.
Shaw revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the comic's rebirth came from the limited number of Marvel characters that were related to individuals of all ages. “Mark and I were talking about how whenever people come in with young kids, or even just for Mark’s own kids, we don’t have that many publications that we can give to people that have that broad reach.”
As for what 'Moon Girl and the Devil Dinosaur' will be covering, well, it will take place in modern day New York City (how do you hide a dinosaur?) and focus on the unlikely duo as “the core of all the adventures that they go on. Ultimately, all of this is about their relationship and how they’re going to learn to work together as a team, but also how Devil Dinosaur teaches Moon Girl how to relate to other people so she’s so in her head,” said Shaw.
