Marvel is developing spin-off limited run shows for Loki, Scarlet Witch

Since 2008, Marvel has blown up this extensive cinematic universe filled with a ton of heroes that have interweaving stories. While it started with just movies, it soon spiraled out into TV shows and even comics that help fill in gaps in the story.

Finding success on ABC and Netflix, Marvel will soon be expanding their efforts into Disney’s upcoming streaming service with a number of live-action mini-series focused on Marvel’s secondary characters. Variety is reporting that Loki and Scarlet Witch are the front-runners for their own shows but there’s room for other Marvel heroes to get their own shows as well.

The report also notes that these will feature big budgets with the main actors returning to reprise their roles. Marvel Studios head and MCU overseer Kevin Feige will also be very hands-on with developing these projects. Variety’s sources also stressed that characters who have had their own standalone films will NOT be part of this plan to give Marvel characters shows. That means no Iron Man or Captain America shows but secondary characters like War Machine and Falcon are not out of the question.

These shows will run for about 6 – 8 episodes, serving almost as extended films to ensure that some of these secondary characters get the due diligence that the A-team has been getting. These projects are still in very early development so chances of them launching with the Disney streaming service next year seem slim to none.

These Marvel projects will join Disney’s meaty line-up for original content which includes a Jon Favreau (director of Iron Man) led Star Wars show with an expected budget of around $100 million, a High School Musical show, and much more. The unnamed service will also launch with hot new Disney films like the upcoming Captain Marvel and the live-action adaptation of Dumbo.

Disney plans to launch their streaming service in late 2019.
