Inhumans fans will be happy to know that Marvel has officially announced that Marvel's The Inhumans TV series will debut on ABC in 2017.
In a first time ever event, the premiere two episodes of the show will be aired only in IMAX theaters, with ABC picking up the show beginning with the third episode. The Inhumans movie, which was supposed to release in 2019 as the last film in this stage of the MCU, was pushed back then totally removed from the slate of films entirely. Marvel's Kevin Feige had noted that the film was still being discussed and that he would like to see it done, but that nothing was in the works at the moment.
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. currently airs on ABC every Tuesday at 10 PM est and has been handling the Inhumans timeline quite well. The inclusion of Ghost Rider into this season has solidified the series as it's the first "main stage" Marvel character to really make an appearance in the show. This also eliminates any possibility of us seeing a standalone Inhumans movie, especially considering the partnership Marvel has made with IMAX and ABC. The first two episodes airing in IMAX theaters pretty much relegates The Inhumans to more of a hybrid/crossover feature than a full on film release at this point. Personally, I have no problems with this as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been a great show so far and I'm curious to see how they expand on the Inhumans story with the origin of Black Bolt and the royal family.
“This first-of-its-kind multi-platform production, distribution and marketing agreement brings together Marvel Television’s unique brand of entertainment, ABC’s unparalleled audience and IMAX’s brand and global fanboy demographic,” said IMAX CEO, Rich Gelfond. “It also takes our decades-long relationship with The Walt Disney Company to a whole new level, jointly breaking new ground in the industry. We are confident our exhibition partners will be excited to work with us on this innovative launch of a series across the IMAX network.”
The first two episodes will air in IMAX during the Summer, with six episodes to follow on ABC beginning in September
