Recently, Marvel and Activision surprised everyone by announcing that Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2 would be getting remasters for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, but it seems like the PC port is having more than a few issues.
After a few leaks and rumors Marvel officially announced that Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2 would be coming sooner than most people anticipated and yesterday, the PlayStation 4 and PC versions got released, but it wasn't without issues.
Apparently, the PC version of the remaster has quite a few problems, something that the Steam reviews are reflecting. Taking a quick look at Activision's earlier remasters like Deadpool and Prototype, it's clear that they don't put that much effort into re-releases and remasters. Activision just puts on a new coat of paint and makes a few minor changes, but that's not the problem. While gamers might be familiar with Activision's way of remastering, the problems PC users are having are bigger.
PC gaming is known for its various customization options and players usually likes to play their game with a mouse and keyboard, but Marvel Ultimate Alliance won't let players rebind keys. On top of that, players are experiencing input lag, making the gaming experience much less pleasant. Not even the menus are free from trouble, players are complaining that they are hard to navigate both with mouse and keyboard and with controller such as the Xbox One controller, making saving and changing teams much more difficult.
Sometimes plugging in a controller will solve some gameplay issues in PC ports, but that won't help here. Players are reporting that the games won't even register that a controller has been connected, it might work for some, but it seems like the majority has issues even connecting a controller to the game.
Not even the audio is free from issues, a majority of the community reviews are saying that the sound is poorly mixed, that it's cutting out, and just that it's bad. The cutscenes have also not been changed from the originals, they look as "good" as they did on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Below, you can find a sample of the community reviews available on Steam, for both games, and it's not just the Steam community that's complaining. The good people on Reddit and other various forums are disappointed as well. It's interesting that both Marvel Ultimate Alliance games seems to have the same issues.
"If you are going to charge close to full retail price for your game, at least make an effort to have it playable. Very first button prompt, the please press A part doesn't work. How does that get passed QA. Come on."
"Controller suppot is awfawl , tried 360 and XOne! both where worngly mapped and miss part of the functionallity!"
"The most impudent release in my lifetime. Even Arkham Knight was less messed up. Sound doesn't work properly, can't understand a thing. Gamepad controls are mapped wrong and there is no option to cusomize it. Refunded."
"Well let's see, the first game doesn't include the DLC which is unnaceptable. The UI looks like garbage in the second game for PC controls and controller support does not work properly. Not to mention the sound quality is abysmal. How was the QA on this signed off on? Zoe Mode? Yeah, you guys suck. I'll be refunding until this is fixed (if)"
Until Activision releases a series of patches to fix all of this then it might be best to hold off on buying Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2, at least of PC.
