Marvel vs Capcom Infinite flops hard in the UK

While the UK sales charts aren't the "end all, be all" of determining a game's success, they certainly can show an eye-opening view of what may come. While it should come as no surprise, Bungie's sequel to their flagship franchise, Destiny 2, took the top spot. What is slightly surprising, is Slightly Mad Studios' Project CARS 2 taking the number two spot over games like PES 2018, Pokken Tournament and GTA 5. I had the chance to review Project CARS 2 and it's by far the best racing simulation game I've ever played. So that didn't surprise me, as it may have others. Plus, it's also developed by a UK studio.

Sadly though, you won't find Marvel vs Capcom Infinite anywhere in the top 10. In going head to head with Project CARS 2 and NBA 2K18, the only really new competitors from last week, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite debuted in twelfth place. That placement is even more disappointing when you consider that the NBA is a league that doesn't even play in the UK. MvC: Infinite was crushed despite the star power of Marvel superheroes like Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, and Captain America as well as Capcom stars like Mega Man, Chun-Li and Dante.

The top ten games for last week were as follows:

1. Destiny 2
2.Project CARS 2
3. NBA 2K18
4. PES 2018
5. POKKEN Tournament DX
6. GTA 5
7. Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
8. Uncharted: Lost Legacy
9. Forza Horizon 3
10. Lego Worlds

It gets even worse for Capcom and Marvel when you also consider that POKKEN Tournament, a fighting game featuring Pokemon, which is basically a re-release of a Wii U game, also debuted last week and beat Infinite. It's hard to tell exactly where Capcom went wrong with their new fighting game. Was it the art style, the bad press from previous demos, the lack of the X-Men or did Street Fighter V really leave that bad of a taste in gamers mouths that they aren't willing to try Marvel vs Capcom Infinite?

It will be interesting to see how good, or bad, Infinite will fair when the US sales charts are released. In any case, go check out Project CARS 2, it's fantastic and is certain to give you hours of enjoyable gameplay.
