Marvel’s Avengers has had a bumpy ride. While it has a great story and some fun gameplay, it is plagued with issues. The game had a patch shortly after release that patched 1,000 different issues, making many wonder how the game shipped with that many in the first place. Needless to say, some have been less than impressed with the game.
Some have been so unimpressed that they’ve totally stopped playing. After a little over a month since release, the PC player count has dipped below 1,000 concurrent players. As of right now, it is still managing to stay around over a thousand but there was a time where only 972 people were playing.
This isn’t particularly great for an online-only game, especially one that had almost 30,000 concurrent players a month ago. Marvel’s Avengers on PC is now suffering from matchmaking issues with queues up to half an hour long. Players are finding matches on consoles like PS4 but they’re rarely filling up their teams of 4, usually resulting in 1 – 2 AI teammates. Forbes’ Paul Tassi fears that Marvel’s Avengers may be on a similar path as EA’s failed online RPG, Anthem.
Some have noted the game isn’t worth playing once the story is complete. Others think that cross-play could have probably kept engagement high. Whatever the case may be, new updates are planned for Marvel’s Avengers in the coming months with Hawkeye and Kate Bishop updates.
Marvel’s Avengers is out now on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. A next-gen version is slated to come out sometime after the consoles release in November.
