Marvel’s Avengers Kamala Khan unveiled as protagonist

Marvel has unveiled a new playable character for their superhero action-adventure game Marvel’s Avengers. The quirky Kamala Khan will not only be playable but is unveiled as the main protagonist of the game’s story. Watch her bendy powers in action in the new trailer here!

The Avengers have long been ingrained into the collective minds of pop culture, not unleast because of the hugely popular Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cinema goers not only got to see their favorite comic heros in live-action but also were introduced to lesser-known characters. It looks like this trend of widening the roster of Marvel heroes will continue with Square-Enix’s game adaptation.

Since the reveal of Marvel’s Avengers, we got to see a small selection of core characters. Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Black Widow were to be expected but with the announcement of Kamala Khan a true newcomer is introduced. With her alter ego Ms. Marvel – not to be confused with Captain Marvel – Khan has enjoyed a cult status in the comics but she has yet to appear in the MCU.

A self-avowed Avengers fan, in the game’s original story, Kamala Khan must apply her intellect, optimism, and unique abilities to the task of unraveling a global conspiracy and reassembling her personal heroes in time to stop a new secretive organization, Advanced Idea Mechanics (AIM), before they unleash one of the greatest threats Earth has ever faced.

Even more surprising is that Ms. Marvel will be the protagonist of Marvel’s Avengers. At first glance it might seem weird that not a heavy-hitter who more people already know was chosen but if you think a bit it actually makes sense. As a newcomer, the developer simply has more leeway in creative freedom and it also presents the ideal vessel to showcase all other heroes. To be frank, choosing the wildcard is probably for the best, or do you think Iron Man fans would be happy with Thor being the main hero etc.?
