BioWare: the name is idolized in the gaming industry, not only on a business level, but on personal grounds with their beautifully created games. Mass Effect 3, the latest installment to their sci-fi series, has generated a lot of buzz lately for its apparent "lackluster ending." Fans have been so outraged by the ending that an official petition has been created, and in just one day, $40K has been raised.
The Retake Mass Effect petition has been perceived in many ways, but the group states its position simply: "We would like to dispel the perception that we are angry or entitled. We simply wish to express our hope that there could be a different direction for a series we have all grown to love." All proceeds for the petition are going towards Child's Play, which provides video games for the patients at Children's Hospitals worldwide.
The group is not just bothered by the ending enough to flame the Internet, they've released a list of changes they're asking BioWare to make to Mass Effect 3:
- A more complete explanation of the story events
- An explanation of the outcome of the decisions made, especially with regard to the planets, races, and companions detailed throughout the series
- A heroic ending which provides a better sense of accomplishment
The donation period ends April 11.
While folks are entitled to their opinions, this group has no right whatsoever to "ask" BioWare to make changes. GameZone gave Mass Effect 3 a 9.5, calling it an "amazing game that should be played by ANY fan of the series — multiple times." BioWare has crafted an epic series that we've spent months playing – even years – and we're satisfied with Shepard and the rest of the team's closing. Thankfully, though, this petition is not going to waste (thanks Child's Play!).
