Master Chief voice actor: ‘I don’t know anything’ about Halo 5

Not even Master Chief voice actor, Steve Downes, knows what's going to happen in Halo 5, or as Microsoft likes to call it "Halo for Xbox One." Speaking to OXM, Downes, who has voiced Master Chief since 2001, was unable to provide any sort of details regarding the future of the Reclaimer trilogy because, well, he doesn't really know anything.

"There's nothing I can divulge to you because, quite frankly, I don't know anything!" Downes told OXM when pressed for more information regarding the next Halo game.

"Anything I'm saying here is pure speculation, but I thought that trailer they did was very exciting. I think the popular theory is that maybe he's gone rogue, which would not be out of the question given what he went through."

"He's holding Cortana's chip, so it would seem as though there is some desire to reactivate that, but again, it's pure speculation on my part. There are so many different possibilities here. You've got to give the credit to the writers for fleshing out a story with that much depth," he added.

It seems that if you want to know more about Halo 5, you're going to have to tune in to Microsoft's E3 press briefing in June where it's said they'll divulge more information. Last E3, Microsoft released a very brief teaser trailer, but since then we've heard very little.

Perhaps even more of a mystery then what the actual game will be about is when it'll actually release. When we last spoke to Downes, he told us not to expect Halo 5 in 2014, but instead the release of Halo 2 Anniversary.

“I think you may be ahead of yourself on Halo 5,” Downes told us at the time. “I wouldn’t expect anything until 2015. What you can look forward to this year is an anniversary edition of Halo 2.” Downes later backtracked on his initial statement and issued a reworded response while adding that he was not actually confirming Halo 2 Anniversary.

For its part, Microsoft has been consistent in its phrasing: "We can confirm your next "Halo" journey will begin in 2014, but beyond that we don't have any details to share at this time."
